Softball: Pirates edged at Fresno, 2-1

Freshman Taylor Maddox continued her hot hitting on Tuesday, going 3 for 4 with a double and RBI but Porterville College couldn't hold a slim lead and fell 2-1 at Fresno City College. The Central Valley Conference loss dropped Porterville to 1-11 overall and 1-3 in the CVC.

Maddox has been on fire at the plate for PC as of late. Over her last four games, she's hit 9 for 16 (.563 batting average) with 6 RBI. Maddox's double in the top of the third inning drove in Britnei Murray to give Porterville a 1-0 lead.

But in the sixth, Fresno (4-8, 1-3 CVC) took advantage of a pair of Porterville errors to score two runs and pull out the home victory.

Porterville had one last chance in the top of the seventh, getting runners on second and third with two outs after Jayme Knauer and Maddox hit consecutive singles. But FCC pitcher Mayra Mendez got Danay Lee to fly out to end the threat and the game.

Hannah Grimes took the loss for Porterville after allowing two runs and four hits in the complete game effort. Murray and Lee also had two hits at the plate for the Pirates.

Porterville will look to snap its three-game losing streak on Thursday (Mar. 9) when the Pirates travel to Reedley College for a Central Valley Conference doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
