Porterville College suffered a pair of Central Valley Conference losses on Thursday, falling by scores of 7-2 and 3-2 at College of the Sequoias.

Freshman Taylor Maddox had a pair of hits and a RBI to lead the Pirates at the plate while sophomore Hannah Grimes pitched well in the narrow Game 2 loss.

Porterville, now 2-15 overall and 2-7 in CVC play, returns to action this weekend (Mar. 18-19) to compete at the Ohlone College tournament in Fremont.

Game 1: Sequoias 7, Porterville 2
COS jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before adding two more runs in the third and two final runs in the fifth. Porterville totaled four hits in the contest but also committed four crucial errors that led to six unearned runs.

Sophia Chamberlain took the loss after allowing seven runs (one earned) and nine hits in the complete-game effort. She struck out two and walked two.

Maddox hit a sacrifice fly that scored Taylor Brennan in the third inning and Jayme Knauer knocked a two-out double in the seventh and came all the around to score on a two-base error for the Pirates' other run.

Game 2: Sequoias 3, Porterville 2
Despite a closer final score, the Pirates did themselves no favors by committing six errors in the contest. Two of those errors came in a three-run, third-inning for the Giants that proved to decide the ball game.

Porterville had just two hits but put together a rally in the sixth inning to score both of its runs. Britnei Murray walked to lead off the frame before Knauer reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Murray to go to second base. Maddox singled to load the bases and Danay Lee followed with a single that drove in Knauer while Murray also scored thanks to a COS error.

Maddox was thrown out trying to advance to third base on the play as well and Sequoias pitcher Ashley Paradine was able to retire Mckenzie Hendricks and Raeleen Torres to end the threat.

Grimes took the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) and seven hits as she went the distance.
