Pirates continue offensive show with sweep of Gavilan

The Porterville College softball team continued its dominant start of the 2018 season with an impressive sweep over Gavilan College on Friday. PC totaled 33 runs over the two games while allowing just one to improve to 4-0 this season.

Third baseman Chelsea Ramos put on an absolute show at the plate for the Pirates. She went an amazing 6 for 7 at the plate with 2 home runs and 9 RBI. She also smacked a triple, a double, and scored 7 runs.

PC needed six innings to put together its first mercy-rule win of the day. Ramos set the tone early with a solo home run in the top of the first inning.

The Pirates broke the game open with four runs in the fourth as Angel Geston smacked a two-run home run for the big blow in the inning. Porterville sealed the victory a six-run, sixth inning as Ramos launched a three-run shot for the exclamation point.

Not to be overlooked was Ashley Eyraud's complete-game shutout effort in the circle for PC. She scattered five hits over six innings and struck three.

The Pirates totaled 18 hits in the five-inning rout of the Rams. PC bats couldn't be stopped as the Pirates scored five runs in the first, five in the second, nine in the third, and four in the fourth.

Ramos drove in five of her nine runs in the second contest while keeping all her hits in the park. Alexis Lafarga also had a big game for the Pirates, going 4 for 5 with 3 runs and 3 RBI. Shantae Gutierrez also drove in three runs and scored three times, as she hit 1 for 2 with a pair of walks.

Alexis Rodriguez opened in the circle and allowed the lone run and two hits over three innings. She struck out six and walked one. Shiloh Lewis and Illianna Castillo closed out the win with scoreless innings of relief.

PC returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 15) when the Pirates travel to LA Pierce College for a non-conference doubleheader.
