Porterville routs continue, Pirates sweep doubleheader from DeAnza

The Porterville College softball team continues to roll, putting up big offensive numbers while its pitching stiffles opponents. The Pirates outscored visiting DeAnza College by a combined 22-1 margin in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.

PC opened with an 11-1 win and closed out the day with 11-0 victory, both coming in five innings. Porterville is now 8-0 as the Pirates head into its Central Valley Conference opener on Thursday (Mar. 1) at home against Cerro Coso College.

Freshman Chelsea Ramos continues to swing the hot bat for PC. She smacked a three-run home run and drove in five in the opener and added two more RBI in the second contest. Ramos went a combined 4 for 6 on the day with 7 RBI, and scored five runs.

Shantae Gutierrez also had a good game in the morning, she she went a perfect 2 for 2 with a double and 3 RBI. In Game 2, Angel Geston starred, going 3 for 3 with 4 RBI.

Porterville's pitchers are also coming up big. Ashley Eyraud allowed a run and just one hit over four innings to pick up the win in the opener while Alexis Rodriguez tossed 4 ⅓ shutout innings and gave up two hits for the win in the second game.

PC's team earned run average of 0.46 easily leads the state while its .465 batting average is No. 2 statewide.
