Porterville rolls to doubleheader sweep at Cerro Coso

Third baseman Chelsea Ramos hit a combined 5 for 9 at the plate to lead Porterville College to a convincing doubleheader sweep of Cerro Coso College on Tuesday. The Central Valley Conference wins improved PC to 13-13 overall and 5-6 in the CVC.

Game 1: Porterville 12, Cerro Coso 3 (5 inn.)
A seven-run, fourth-inning rally lifted PC to the mercy-rule win in Tuesday's opener. The big blow came off the bat of Shantae Gutierrez as she smashed a grand slam to cap the rally.

Sophia Carrillo went a perfect 3 for 3 and scored two runs while Ramos was 2 for 4 with three runs, a double, and a RBI. Emma Poll also had a big game, driving in three runs while going 2 for 3.

Ashley Eyraud allowed one unearned run and two hits over two innings in the start while Shiloh Lewis struck out eight batters over the final three innings to close out the win.

Game 2: Porterville 10, Cerro Coso 0 (5 inn.)
PC left no doubt with another five-inning win to close the doubleheader. PC scored four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and put the mercy rule in play with a five-run rally in the fifth.

Ramos got the rout started with a two-run single in the third while Angel Geston closed it out with a three-run home run in the fifth. Carrillo also had a big hit, delivering a two-run double also in the fifth.

Ramos went 3 for 4 while Gutierrez had another good game with a 2 for 4 effort at the plate. Alexis Rodriguez went the distance for the shutout. She allowed just one hit while striking out four.

Porterville returns to action on April 5 at 2 p.m. when the Pirates host Taft College in a CVC game.
