Pirates split conference doubleheader at first-place Fresno City

Porterville College came up with a split in a Central Valley Conference doubleheader at first-place Fresno City College on Tuesday. Fresno handed the Pirates an 8-3 loss in the opener before PC closed out the set with a 10-8 victory.

Following Tuesday's action, Porterville evened its records at 15-15 and 7-7 in conference play.

Designated player Angel Geston went a combined 6-for-8 with 5 RBI over the two games to lead Porterville at the plate.

Game 1: Fresno 8, Porterville 3
The Rams broke a 3-3 tie with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out their win over Porterville in the opener.

Third baseman Chelsea Ramos went 3-for-4 with a RBI to lead the Pirates' offense. Her double in the third inning scored Sophia Carrillo. Geston had a pair of hits and drove in a run.

Alexis Rodriguez took the loss after allowing six runs (three earned) and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Game 2: Porterville 10, Fresno 8
It was the Pirates turn to rally late in the game as PC scored three runs in the fifth to tie and rallied for three more runs in the sixth to stun FCC.

Gaston had her best game of the season, going a perfect 4-for-4 with 4 RBI. She smacked a two-run double in the third that scored Ramos and Carrillo. Gaston's RBI single in the sixth brought home Shantae Gutierrez and put the Pirates ahead for good.

Gutierrez put together a good game, scoring a pair of runs for the Pirates while collecting two hits. Ashley Eyraud earned the win in relief as she allowed just one run and three hits over the final three innings of the ball game.

Porterville will look to keep the momentum going when the Pirates travel to Reedley College on Thursday (April 12) for a 2 p.m. CVC game.
