Porterville extends winning streak to four with doubleheader sweep at Victor Valley

Porterville College pitchers Alexis Rodriguez and Ashley Eyraud combined to allow just one earned over a pair of games while the Pirates' offense totaled 24 hits in a doubleheader sweep at Victor Valley College in Victorville on Friday. PC took Game 1 by a score of 11-2 in five innings and was a 9-3 winner in the second game.

The non-conference victories improved the Pirates to 17-11 overall.

Rodriguez allowed two unearned and two hits in PC five-inning win in the opening game. She struck out four and walked one.

Kassy Cervantes got the Pirates started, smashing a solo home run in the top of the second. From that point, it was all PC. They scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and blew the game open with a five-run, fifth-inning.

Annisa Gomez had a big game at the plate for Porterville in Game 1, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and 4 RBI. Gomez has been on fire for the Pirates as of late, hitting 11-for-20 over her last five games with 9 RBI.

Raquel Gonzalez (2-for-4, 2 R) and Eyraud (1-for-3, 2 R) both drove in two runs each the opener.

It was more of the same in Game 2. The Pirates jumped on Victor Valley pitcher Ashley Blanco for a run in the top of the first and put together another five-run outburst in the second to go ahead 6-0.

VVC got two runs in the in the third, but the Pirates closed out the game scoring twice in the fourth and pushing across a final run in the fifth.

After going hitless in the opener, Kuea Angilau drove in two runs, going 2-for-3. Ashley Rojo also had 2 RBI, going 2-for-3 as well.

Gomez (2-for-5) and Cervantes (2-for-4, 1 RBI) had two hits each while Auzia Mosley (1-for-3), Eyraud (1-for-4), and Alexis LaFarga (1-for-3) all drove in a run.

Eyraud was excellent in the circle for the Pirates. She earned the win with the complete game, allowing one earned run and seven hits. Eyraud struck out four and walked none.

The Pirates will look to extend their four-game winning streak when they return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 2) when they host Taft College in a Central Valley Conference doubleheader. Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
