Porterville College freshman Annisa Gomez continued her hot hitting for the Pirates. On Friday, Gomez smashed a grand slam and totaled 9 RBI to help lead Porterville to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Cerro Coso College. The Pirates needed just five innings to beat the Coyotes 14-1 in the opener and took Game 2 by a final score of 9-3.

The Pirates have won 10 of their last 12 games and improved to 23-13 overall after Friday's action. With three games left in the Central Valley Conference schedule, Porterville currently sits in a fourth-place tie at 9-7.

Gomez drove in seven runs in Game 1, including 4 RBI from her grand slam. She went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored twice to lead the PC offense.

Kuea Angilau and Shantae Gutierrez both drove in two runs while Raquel Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, and three runs.

Alexis Rodriguez earned the win in the opener, tossing a complete-game, four-hitter. She allowed just one unearned run over five innings.

In Game 2, Porterville had just three hits but took advantage of nine walks and three Cerro Coso errors to rally for a late win.

The Coyotes led 3-0 after three innings before the Pirates finally got on the board with a run in the fourth. A three-run, fifth-inning put PC in front while a five-run outburst in the sixth slammed the door.

Gomez added 2 RBI in the finale while Gutierrez and Alexis LaFarga hit doubles.

Ashley Eyraud was the Game 2 winner, allowing three unearned runs and six hits in the seven-inning effort. She struck out eight batters and walked none.

Porterville closes out the regular season this week with a conference doubleheader at College of the Sequoias on Tuesday (Apr. 16) starting at 1 p.m. and a final home game on Thursday (Apr. 18) at 2 p.m. against West Hills College Coalinga.
