Pirates snap losing streak with 13-4 rout of Sequoias

VISALIA – Freshman Cassie Cannon smacked a pair of doubles and drove in three runs to help lead Porterville College to a 13-4 Central Valley Conference win at College of the Sequoias on Thursday.

The victory snapped the Pirates' six-game losing streak and improved PC to 5-81 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Porterville totaled 12 hits in the six-inning contest and scored six runs in the first and sixth innings to wrap up the win.

The Pirates quickly jumped on COS starting pitcher Madisen Shimmon to open the game and sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the first. Cannon's two-run double scored Hailee Smutz and Mo Mosely to get Porterville on the board. Ashlyn Houston added a two-run single for the other big blow.

In the sixth, Cannon hit her second double of the game to knock in a run and Madelynn Pierce added a two-run double.

Cannon closed the game going 2 for 3 with two walks, two runs, and 3 RBI. Pierce also drove in three runs, going 2 for 4 with a walk and double. Mo Mosely had a three-hit game (3 for 5), scored twice and was credited with an RBI.

Cheyenne Austin reached base four times, going 2 for 3 with a pair of walks while Houston (1 for 3, run, walk) had 2 RBI.

Ally Boyd earned the win, tossing a complete-game while allowing four runs (two earned) and nine hits. She struck out four and walked one.

Porterville returns to action on Tuesday (Mar. 29) when the Pirates will host Cerro Coso College in a non-conference doubleheader. Game 1 is set for noon.
