PORTERVILLE – Freshman Ally Boyd did all she could to help lead Porterville College to a win on Tuesday. In the opening game of a Central Valley Conference doubleheader, Boyd totaled three hits, including a home run, and went the distance in the circle to earn the win as the Pirates edged visiting Reedley College 8-7.

PC had a tougher time in Game 2 and suffered a 7-2 loss to close out the day's action.

At the plate, Boyd went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and her home run. Hailee Smutz drove in three runs for the Pirates as she was 2 for 3 in the contest with a double.

Mo Mosley also played a key role in the win. She reached base three times and scored all three times after hitting a double, triple, and earning a walk.

Boyd allowed all seven runs with just one being earned while scattering 15 hits over seven innings.

The Pirates totaled just six hits in the second game of the doubleheader. Smutz (2 for 3) had two more and drove in a run while Madelynn Pierce went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

A four-run, third-inning by Reedley put the game out of reach. Boyd took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs (seven total) and nine hits in another seven-inning complete-game effort.

With the split, Porterville moved to 11-22 overall and 4-8 in Central Valley Conference play. The Pirates return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 19) when they host College of the Sequoias in a CVC doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m.
