Slow start hurts Porterville in conference loss to Reedley
Porterville College sophomore Kathy Rodriguez posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, but the Pirates couldn’t overcome an ugly first quarter and suffered a 74-58 Central Valley Conference loss to visiting Reedley College on Wednesday night.

The Pirates were ice cold to start the game and found themselves trailing Reedley 22-4 after the first quarter. PC went on to outscore Reedley in two of the final three periods but couldn't overcome the huge deficit.
Porterville nailed 7 three-point baskets, including 4 from Raquel Gonzalez. She came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points.
Rodriguez put together her second double-double of the season and added 4 assists and 4 blocks to her impressive night. Sierra Perez added 12 points and Raeleen Jensen contributed 10 rebounds.
Wednesday's loss dropped Porterville to 3-17 overall and 0-6 in conference play. The Pirates will look to snap a seven-game losing streak on Saturday (Feb. 2) when they host first-place Merced College in a 6 p.m. CVC game.
