Pirates falter mid-game in loss to Fresno City

For two quarters, Porterville College held its own against visiting Fresno City College on Wednesday night.

After the opening period, the Pirates were down to the Rams by just five points at 19-14. And in the fourth, Porterville was outscored by just three points (21-18). But it was the second and third quarters were the game got away.

Fresno put up a combined 55 points over the two periods, while Porterville managed just 14 points, to hand the Pirates a 95-46 Central Valley Conference loss.

Porterville had a rough night shooting, making 18 of 57 shots from the field although they did nail 6 three-pointers.

Sierra Perez had a pair of three-point baskets on her way to a team-high 9 points. She also grabbed 5 rebounds and had 2 assists.

Kathy Rodriguez scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while Raquel Gonzalez came off the bench to contribute 6 points as well.

The loss dropped PC to 3-20 overall and 0-9 in conference play. The Pirates will look to snap their losing streak when they return to the court on Saturday (Feb. 16) at 5 p.m. when they host Taft College.
