Alvarez, Pirates earn first win with 82-32 rout of Hartnell

New head coach Alia Alvarez earned Porterville College career win No. 1 thanks to an 82-32 victory at home over Hartnell College on Friday night.

After coming up just short on numerous occasions, the Pirates also have their first win of the season and improved to 1-9.

PC got off to a great start, outscoring Hartnell 22-12 in the first quarter but put the game away by holding the Panthers to just two points in the second. Porterville led 44-14 at halftime and was never threatened.

Jazlynne Medrano had a huge game, earning season-highs with 27 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Mia Pengilly posted her second straight double-double and sixth of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Kaija Ambriz and Jenna Holder both chipped in with 12 points.

Porterville will look to keep the momentum going when the Pirates travel to Cuesta College on Wednesday (Dec. 15) for a 6 p.m. non-conference game.
