Pirates look to improve on last season; open Wednesday at home

The 2022-23 Porterville College women's basketball season gets underway on Wednesday (Nov. 2) when the Pirates host Allan Hancock College at 5 p.m., the first of 10 scheduled home games this season for PC.

The contest, as well as all women's basketball home games, will be live streamed on the Porterville College Athletics website at https://portervillepirates.com/live/wbb.

Porterville head coach Alia Alvarez returns for her second year leading the program. She'll look to improve on a tough 2021-22 season that saw PC compile a 3-21 overall record and 2-10 mark in Central Valley Conference play.

Just four players return from a squad that was limited in numbers and because of injuries and COVID, was forced to forfeit games towards the end of the season.

With a full roster of 12 to start the 2022-23 season, depth shouldn't be a problem for the Pirates this year. Returning sophomores Jazlynne Medrano, Jenna Holder, Kaija Ambriz, and Cienna Enriquez will be looked to for leadership on a freshman-heavy squad.

Following the season opener, Porterville hosts Palo Verde College on Friday (Nov. 4) at 5 p.m. The Pirates will compete in four tournaments this season in Visalia, Santa Ana, Fullerton, and San Jose before opening Central Valley Conference play on Jan. 4 at home against West Hills Lemoore College.
