Pirates drop conference opener 71-60 to West Hills Lemoore

PORTERVILLE – Jazzlyne Medrano scored a team-high 19 points while Jenna Holder and Davina Lopez nearly posted double-doubles for Porterville College in a 71-60 loss to visiting West Hills College Lemoore on Wednesday in both teams' Central Valley Conference opener.

The Pirates fell behind early, and trailed 21-13 after the first quarter and were down 39-15 at halftime. A 24-point third quarter by the Pirates gave some hope of a comeback, but the Golden Eagles were able to hang on for the win.

Medrano added 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals to a good all-around night. Holder came up just short of a double-double with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Same for Lopez as she totaled 11 points and 9 boards.

Cienna Enriquez added 8 points and Assyria Murrietta contributed 10 rebounds and 5 points off the bench.

Porterville fell to 5-11 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Pirates are back in action on Saturday (Jan. 7) when they host Fresno City College in a 3 p.m. Central Valley Conference game.
