Pirates qualify four for 3C2A State Championships

Porterville College will be represented by four Pirates at the upcoming 3C2A State Championships that are scheduled for April 24-27 at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club in Ojai.

Advancing for the PC women are Maria Etrata and Jackie Ayala. The duo will team up in doubles action while Etrata will also compete in singles competition.

Etrata reached the semifinals of last week's Central Valley Conference Championships tournament in singles and earned first-team All-Central Valley Conference honors. In doubles, Etrata and Ayala advanced to the CVC quarterfinals.

On the men's side, Porterville's Samuel Campos and Knautilus Vankham earned their spot in doubles at the 3C2A State Championships.

Also for the Pirates, PC's Kurt Nielsen was named the Central Valley Conference Men's and Women's Coach of the Year. Nielsen, now in his seventh year leading the Pirates, helped relaunch the tennis program at the college in 2019.
