Pirates close out non-conference schedule with loss to Cerro Coso

Porterville College freshman Madison Doty totaled seven kills and two digs to lead the Pirates in a 3-1 loss to visiting Cerro Coso College on Monday. The 25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21 defeat evened up PC's overall record at 5-5.

The contest was a non-conference match as the Coyotes left the Central Valley Conference to join the newly formed Inland Empire Conference in Southern California this fall.

PC used a balanced attack, getting six kills from Jocelyn Sanchez and five each from Emily Kissick and Kuea Angilau. But errors proved costly in the match. The Pirates committed 16 attack errors and also had 16 service errors.

On defense, Karissa Jones came up a team-best 12 digs to go with four aces. Jordan Castaneda totaled a match-high 30 assists.

Porterville returns to action on Friday (Sep. 20) at 6 p.m. when it opens Central Valley Conference play at College of the Sequoias.
