Kissick leads Pirates to consecutive wins

It was a successful pair of days for the Porterville College women's volleyball team. On Friday, The Pirates earned a 3-1 Central Valley Conference win over visiting Reedley College and followed that up with a 3-2 non-conference victory at Cerro Coso College on Saturday.

Freshman Emily Kissick had a huge two days for the Pirates as she totaled 34 kills and 31 digs over the two matches.

The Pirates opened the weekend with a 25-19, 13-25, 25-14, 25-18 win over the visiting Tigers. PC totaled 45 kills in the match compared to just 18 by Reedley. Kissick came up big for Porterville, leading her squad with 17 kills and 13 digs.

Madison Doty contributed 11 kills while Jocelyn Sanchez had nine kills and a team-high seven blocks. Makayla Trujillo served up seven aces and Jordan Castaneda directed the offense with 33 assists.

The Pirates hit the road the next day to face a familiar former conference foe. In Ridgecrest, Porterville was able to outlast Cerro Coso 25-23, 16-25, 25-24, 24-26, 15-12 in a hard-fought, evenly-matched contest.

Kissick was the go-to player on offense for the Pirates as she had 64 total attempts. She was on fire once again, posting another team-high 17 kills while coming up with 18 digs. She added two aces, two assists, and a block on her second straight big night.

Doty added seven kills, eight digs, three assists, and three blocks in her solid match. Karissa Jones led Porterville with 23 digs with Yvette Hernandez contributing 12 digs. Jocelyn Sanchez also had a good night with seven kills, five blocks, four assists, and three digs.

Castaneda totaled 18 assists and eight digs while Maggie Zanazzo had 13 assists and seven digs.

Porterville evened up its overall record at 9-9 and moved to 3-4 in the CVC. PC has won three of its last four matches and will look to keep that momentum going when the Pirates return to conference action on Wednesday (Oct. 16). They travel to face West Hills College Coalinga for a 6 p.m. match.
