Pirates wrap up season with win at Reedley, loss to West Hills

The Porterville College women's volleyball team closed out the 2019 season by splitting its two matches during the final week of the season. On Wednesday, the Pirates swept Reedley College on the road but ended the year with a 3-0 loss at home to West Hills College Coalinga on Friday.

PC wasted little time in its 25-12, 25-18, 25-13 victory at Reedley. Freshman Madison Doty led the Pirates on offense with 10 kills while setter Jordan Castaneda had 19 assists.

Freshman Emily Kissick put together another outstanding match, posting 6 kills, 10 digs, and an ace. Karissa Jones had a match-high 12 digs while Jocelyn Sanchez totaled 5 kills and 2 blocks.

The season wrapped up on Friday with a 25-24, 25-19, 25-17 loss to West Hills. The Pirates played tough in the first set, but momentum proved to stay on the side of the Falcons the remainder of the match.

PC totaled just 15 kills in the contest, getting a team-high 4 kills from Kissick. She also led the Pirates with 7 digs.

Porterville thanked and said farewell to its three sophomores. In their final matches with PC, Juliet Garcia posted 3 kills, 3 blocks, and 3 digs, Yvette Hernandez served up a pair of aces, and Maggie Zanazzo had 8 assists and 3 digs.

Porterville closed out 2019 with a 12-15 overall record and finished sixth in the Central Valley Conference with a 6-10 mark under third-year head coach Pete Rasmussen.
