Porterville College Athletics celebrated an outstanding 2018-19 season on and off the field on Monday night at the 11th annual Academic and Athletic Achievement Awards.

It was an impressive return season for the Porterville College women’s tennis team and head coach Kurt Nielsen. The Pirates recently wrapped up their first season of action in 15 years with a pair of state championship qualifiers.

After 15 years and an added week because of rainouts, the Porterville College women’s tennis team finally returned to the court and was triumphant in an 8-1 win at Antelope Valley College on Friday.

It’s been 15 years since Porterville College last fielded a women’s tennis team. But 2019 makes the return of tennis to the college as well as the program’s last head coach.

Porterville College Director of Student Programs & Athletics Joe Cascio has announced the addition of women’s cross country and women’s tennis intercollegiate athletic programs.
